BIOS Update

Working Solution for BIOS Update of "K95VB"

  1. Download the newest BIOS for “K95VB”.
      • “BIOS & FIRMWARE - Version 209. 2014/11/05. BIOS 209” - The download “K95VBAS209.zip” contains the file “K95VBAS.209”.
  2. Unzip the file and copy it on the root level of an USB stick formatted in FAT32 format.
  3. Power-up your “K95VB” notebook, press “F2” during startup, and enter the BIOS user interface of the UEFI BIOS.
  4. CURSOR-RIGHT to select “Advanced”.
  5. Press RETURN on the first item from top of the screen “Start Easy Flash”.
  6. Use CURSOR-DOWN, CURSOR-UP to select the USB file system in the file system list ( “FS0”, “FS1, “FS2”, “FS3”, “FS4”, “FS5”,..), e.g. “FS0”.
  7. CURSOR-RIGHT to select the proper file in the filelist and dirctory list.
  8. Select the proper file, e.g. “K95VBAS.209”.
  9. Press RETURN to select the file.
  10. Window message “Do you want to update BIOS?”. Press CURSOR-LEFT to select “Yes”. Press RETURN.

Not suitable Tools and Methods

  1. ASUS Windows BIOS Flash Utility”.
      • “Drivers & Tool”, select “Windows 8 64-Bit” - “BIOS-Utilities - Windows BIOS Flash Utility” ( “WinFlash_Win7_8_VER2420.zip” ).
    • The installer “Setup.exe” tries to install an MSI file “data/409.msi”. On Win10Pro however, the MSI files refuses to install by the error message “Sorry, this program only supports ASUS notebook!” :-(.
  2. ASUS Live Update”.
  3. ASUS EasyUpdate”.
    • ASUS Support "EasyUpdate" - Select “Windows 8 64bit - Software and Utility - Version V3.00.08. 2013/07/15” - “Easy Update 2” ( “Easyupdate2_Win8_64_VER30008.zip” ).
    • The BIOS update tool requrires files in the format “BIOS(.cap)” and “BIOS(.rom)” :-(. Consequently, the BIOS update tool refuses to load the downloaded K95VB BIOS “Das Modell des BIOS-Image stimmt nicht mit dem aktuellen BIOS-ROM überein”.
  4. MyASUS”.
    • Microsoft Store "MyASUS" - This site works with Microsoft Edge browser only. However by this, there is a direct button “Get in Store app”, which lets you install the tool on a Win10 computer.
    • However on Win10Pro, if I start the Microsoft App, it starts, but after a while, it dissappears, i.e. it crashes :-(.
  5. AI Suite 3 (EZ Update)”.
    • No download offer for my ASUS hardware.

How I setup my System with ( German ) Windows 8 to boot from Harddisk1

Hardware

Preparation

  1. Boot a Linux from DVD and delete all partitions - Just to be shure to start from scratch.
  2. Boot a “Windows 8” or “Windows 8 Pro” installation DVD.
  3. Delete all partitions on harddisk0 ( where Windows 8 was preinstalled, originally ).
  4. Delete all partitions on harddisk1.
  5. Create the Windows partition on harddisk1.
    • For every fresh drive, where Windows wants to install, it creates the extra partition “MSR ( reserviert )”.
    • On the first drive where you setup a Windows partition, the partitions “System” and “Wiederherstellung” are also created - but just there. So you can´t setup 2 independant Windows installations on a computer with 2 drives where you can´t disconnect the drives easily ( and have the BIOS option to boot from any drive, as known from desktop computer motherboards ).
    • Solution: Deattach harddisk1 for Windows installation on harddisk0. See below.
